Week 1 of Helping Founders Make More Money by Doing Less

Another budgeting app.. Can they sell amongst thousand others?

This week, I audited a budgeting app.

Decent design, good features...but missing the REAL problems.

I’m gonna be super quick with what I found out and how I fixed it:

The Budgeting app in question

Mistake #1: They didn't hit the basics

I don’t wanna “KNOW WHERE MY DOLLAR GOES”

I want to save for a big vacation, feel like my life’s in control.

The subtitle is a FULL LOAD OF FEATURE DUMP.

You have to write these first three lines as if someone is reading it with Slack pings in the background, oven beeping, and kids fighting for the remote.

If they don’t get it, they will click CLOSE and never be back again.

Mistake #2: They didn’t CALL ME OUT

People who use budgeting app

Forget to update budgets, spends get lazy, can't keep up.

While their features HIT exactly that, they have to CALL THIS OUT FIRST.

Remind me why all other apps are failing

This is double bonanza..

You made me feel my pain + you differentiated yourself from 100 competitors

Mistake #3: Missed the BIG QUESTION:

Are they selling to people who already budget OR convincing lazy people to start?

Because those are two completely different landing pages with different pain points and solutions.

Fix - Before you start, write down all habits/feelings of your target

If you’re building a FITNESS APP

Jot down what someone who wants to get fit ..but can’t is like

→ Craves and eats desserts at midnight
→ Gets overwhelmed physcially and mentally with fitness routines
→ Does it for 5 days and then forgets all about it

NOW USE THIS IN ALL YOUR MARKETING DECISIONS

TLDR:

  • Your first 2 min copy should be stupid simple

  • Call my habits out

  • Nail down who you are serving

Very simple stuff, but will double your MRR.

You realize you don’t even have to ADD features to make more money..

You just have to present them skillfully.

And one last..reveal -

Your "First 5 Minutes" Are Killing Conversions

This budgeting app we discussed above is a PERFECT example.

Great features, solid product...but visitors bounce because those first 5 minutes don't answer:

  • What exactly does this do?

  • Why not use Mint instead?

  • Wait, you have coaching calls?

98% of your traffic decides in 5 minutes.

Not after your email sequence. Not after they "think about it."

Right. Freaking. Now.

And if they close, your abandoned cart sequence wouldn’t bring them back.

Your landing page copy
Your pricing
Your onboarding
Your first 2 mins of the trial

Should all work seamlessly together

Should give them a dopamine hit

Push them to NOT GIVE UP

Only then will that one lead, turn into MRR

That's what I fix…

I make those 5 minutes of your SaaS impossible to ignore so people click every button till the BUY BUTTON

Looking forward to see you
